OPENING THE MAIN MENU

Press the OPTIONS button during free movement to open the main menu. Select a category and press the button to view information about Dragon Ball Z’s story, a relationship chart, the Z Encyclopedia, where movies and music can be enjoyed, and so on.

Main Menu Overview

Items: View and/or use items in your possession.
Party: Change the members of your party.
Characters: Customise characters, check their stats, and more.
Story: Check progress made in the story and the Turtle School Training Manual.
Community: View community boards and Soul Emblems.
Dragon Balls: Once you have collected the 7 Dragon Balls, select a wish and summon Shenron.
System: View system features.

ITEMS

Press the and buttons to switch between item categories. Use the left stick or directional buttons to select an item.

Item Categories

Recovery: Items that recover your HP.
Cooking: Items that boost your stats.
Materials: Items necessary for fishing, development, or exchange.
Gifts: Items that can be gifted to Soul Emblem characters.
Event: Items used in the story, training, or events.

Using Items

Recovery and cooking items can be used here. Use the left stick or directional buttons to select an item, then press the button to use it.

Registering to Palettes

Register a recovery item to a palette to use it in battle. With the left stick or directional buttons, select the item you would like to register, then press the button to open the Item Palette. Select a palette, then press the button to register the item there.

PARTY

Use the left stick or directional buttons to select the slot you would like to change, then select the character you would like to add to your party from the characters on standby. Depending on how you form your party, a Party Bonus may be applied.


Offensive Style – Defensive Style – Special Style

Super Attack Palette: Press the button while a character is selected

Set Super Attacks, Transformations, and Know-How to the palette. Press the or button, select the skill you would like to set. Select the slot to change, followed by the skill you would like to add from the those you’ve acquired.

CHARACTERS

Use the left stick or directional buttons to select a character, then press the button to view that character’s stats.

Super Attack Skill Tree: Press the button while a character is selected

Use Z Orbs to level up Super Attacks. Use the left stick or directional buttons to select a level, then press the button to consume Z Orbs and level up the attack. Super Attacks with the Training Grounds icon are unlocked by completing challenges at Training Grounds.

STORY

Press the and buttons to switch between the In Progress, Completed, and Turtle School Training Manual categories. Use the left stick or directional buttons to select the story you would like to view.

Turtle School Training Manual

Obtained by progressing through the story. Complete the training exercises listed in the Turtle School Training Manual and report back to Master Roshi to receive rewards and unlock more difficult exercises.

Story progress display

Press the button while an In Progress or Completed story is selected to view its progress via checkboxes.

Navigation

Press the  button while an In Progress sub story is selected to display navigation for it on the Area Map and World Map.

COMMUNITY

Opening a Community Board

Select ‘Community Board’ from COMMUNITY menu to move to the Community Board’s editing screen.

Editing a Community Board

Press the or button to switch boards. Press the  button, select a character from the Soul Emblems list, then press the  button where you would like to set it. If a Soul Emblem has already been set there, it will be swapped out.

Community Boards

Various skills that come in handy on adventures can be acquired by placing Soul Emblems on the community boards. Skill bonuses activate according to the emblems placed, and the overall level of those emblems will increase the associated community’s rank, increasing the types of community skills.

Z Warrior Community: Community skills that aid in battle activate.
Training Community: Community skills that increase the EXP earned in battle and help boost your defence activate.
Community of the Gods: Community skills that make it easier to earn rewards activate.
Adventure Community: Community skills that provide support for adventuring in general activate.
Cooking Community: Community skills that are useful in cooking activate.
Development Community: Community skills that aid development activate.
Adult Community: Community skills that aid in efficiently earning Zeni activate.

Opening Soul Emblems

Select ‘Soul Emblems’ from COMMUNITY menu to move to the Soul Emblem list.

Viewing Soul Emblems

Select a Soul Emblem and press the button to view details about it. Press the button to move to Community Board editing. Press the and buttons to change pages on the Soul Emblem list. Press the button to reorder them by community.

Soul Emblems

Soul Emblems can be obtained as you progress through the story. By setting them to a community board, you can obtain skills that will help you on your adventure.

Enhancing Soul Emblems

Soul Emblems have two different parameters: Friendship and Proficiency. Using gifts will increase both parameters. Press the button on the Soul Emblem Details screen to display your Gift List. Select a gift to use, then press the button.
Friendship: Increase to receive rare items as rewards.
Proficiency: Increase to raise the community’s level.

DRAGON BALLS

Summoning Shenron

Collect all 7 Dragon Balls to gain access to this menu. Select a place to set your wish and press the  button to move the cursor to the wish list. Select the wish you would like granted from the list, then press the  button. You can then select ‘Summon Shenron’. Selecting this and pressing the  button will call the dragon to grant your wish.

(The number of wishes that can be granted changes throughout the story. The same wish cannot be selected more than once.)

The Dragon Balls

You will become able to collect the Dragon Balls as you progress through the story.

Collecting the Dragon Balls

When the Dragon Balls reappear, the areas where they are located will display on the World Map and the specific Dragon Ball locations will display on the Area Map. When a Dragon Ball is collected, the acquired Dragon Ball will be displayed on the radar.

(There are certain times in the story that the Dragon Balls cannot be collected.)

SYSTEM

System Menu

Select the option you would like to view and press the  button.

Save

Select the slot to save the game data, then press the button to save it. If there is already data saved there, it will be overwritten.

Load

Select the saved data to load, then press the  button to continue the game from that point.

Options

Select an item to change with the directional buttons, then press the  button. Use the directional buttons to adjust the settings. Changes can be saved by pressing the OPTIONS button.

Tutorials

Make a selection and press the  button to view that tutorial. Use the and buttons to change pages.

Title Screen

Quit the game and return to the title screen.

Z Encyclopedia

Select a chapter from the table of contents and press the  button to open the corresponding page. Use the and buttons to navigate the encyclopedia. Be sure to refer to the instructions on the screen for details on viewing each chapter.
