USE ARTES

To activate an assigned arte, push the  button while pushing the Left Stick in the direction of the assigned arte or by simply pressing the button. When you use a magic arte, casting starts when you press the button. The arte takes effect as soon as the casting finishes. Be aware that casting is cancelled if you get hit while casting.

ARTE STAND-BY AND CANCEL CASTING

When the controlled character uses an arte, holding the button allows the character to stand by in the state when the casting has finished, and releasing the button enables the use of the arte.

FREE TARGET

With certain artes such as Tractor Beam that have an area of effect, the Free Cursor appears. The arte originates from the location of the Free Cursor. Use the Left Stick to move the Free Cursor towards enemies if necessary.

USE SHORTCUTS

Right Stick
You can use assigned artes by using Right Stick. You can also assign the artes of uncontrolled characters.

SKILL ALTERED ARTES

When using some artes with a corresponding skill, the artes may alter. These are called Skill Altered Artes and by using them several times, they become available on the Artes Screen even after removing the skill.

EXAMPLE OF SKILL ALTERED ARTES

Yuri has a base arte called Azure Edge. Using the Azure Edge with Chain skill set makes him learn Azure Storm. There are many different Skill Altered Artes so try to uncover and use them all.

COMBO

In a combo attack, you can connect attacks in succession without a counterattack from the enemy. A combo is comprised of a normal attack > base arte > arcane arte. Shown below is an example of a combo.
NOTE: Skill Altered Artes can be chained within a combo when a specific skill is set.

ITEM REQUEST

For Auto-controlled characters, an item request is made before using the item; the item will be automatically used after a while. Press the button when you don’t want them to use the item. You can also change the settings so that they won’t make any item requests on the Edit Strategy Screen.

FATAL STRIKE

By repeatedly attacking an enemy during battle, red/blue/green formulas appear. Holding the button when the formula appears allows you to activate a Fatal Strike that can beat the enemy in one attack. Check the timing of the Fatal Strike’s appearance with the Fatal Strike Gauge.
NOTE: For enemies that can’t be defeated with a single Fatal Strike, the Fatal Strike will heavily damage them.

TYPES OF FATAL STRIKES

The colour of the formula varies depending on the normal attacks and artes that have hit your enemies. You can check each arte with the icons displayed on the Arte Screen. The types of Fatal Strikes varies depending on the colour of the formula.

FS CHAIN

Various effects are added to the character by activating a series of Fatal Strikes. This is called an FS Chain. The added effects, such as an increase in acquired experience or altering item acquisition rates, vary depending on the colour of the formula when activating the Fatal Strike.

SECRET MISSIONS

A secret mission may be discovered when fighting against specific enemies. Completing a secret mission may give a bonus to the battle grade or allow you to acquire an item.
There are many kinds of secret missions, such as downing an enemy using a specific attack, so make sure to try to find them all.

ACTIVATE OVER LIMIT

Directional buttons
Whenever your attacks hit the enemy without being blocked or you take damage, the Over Limit Gauge increases. When the gauge is full, the Over Limit level rises and the gauge continues to fill until used. Pressing the Directional buttons when at least one level of the Over Limit Gauge is full activates the Over Limit level of the corresponding direction you have pressed. You can consecutively attack and use artes without casting time during the Over Limit.

BURST ARTES

Burst artes are more powerful than arcane artes and advanced artes. Holding the button after using a skill altered arte, arcane arte or advanced arte during the Over Limit activates a burst arte. Combining burst artes into consecutive attacks provides a wide range of attacks.
NOTE: Burst artes become available as the game progresses.

Characters may become stunned when receiving damage. Be careful, stunned characters will not be able to move and will become vulnerable for a short period of time.
By repeatedly pushing the Left Stick, you can shorten the stun period.
